Promoting positive collaboration to help grow the Adelaide salsa scene
OUR CULTURE
Mambo City strives to build an environment where all parties are considered equals. This ensures a mutual level of respect and communication and helps to facilitate a positive learning, teaching and working environment where all people are valued. We aim to build constructive and collaborative relationships with other studios and salsa representatives in Adelaide, Australia and ultimately internationally.
We offer a tailored teaching and learning experience for dance students. Our methodologies place emphasis on quality, not quantity to develop our students and teams to their fullest potential, regardless of their level.
For the ambitious dancer wanting to take it to the next level, we offer intense choreography training opportunities. Through this pathway students can expand from social dancers to pursuing local, interstate and international performance and competition.
A message from our co-founder
We weren't born Latinos or Africans, we didn't grow up with Latin and Afro Rhythm in our blood... but we were totally fascinated when we first witnessed the joy and passion of such rhythm expressed by amazing musicians and dancers, over a decade ago. So we learned, and learned, and learned... We practiced, practiced, and practiced. We were privileged to learn from amazing local teachers, and we were privileged to learn from the world's best from time to time. The more we learned, the more we appreciated the finer things, and realised there was so much more to learn.
We admire the rhythm, the movements, the roots and the culture of Latin, Afro music and dance. Rumba, Afro, Pachanga, Swing, Mambo, Son, Boogaloo. Salsa has been the joy and inspiration to life. We have had the privilege to learn from: - Alien Ramirez - 24 times world Salsa & Bachata champion - Cuba/Miami - Oliver Pineda - 10 times world Salsa champion - Sydney/Chile
Jonathan has been teaching, choreographing, performing and competing professionally and internationally since 2009. He is still actively involved in professional development, learning from and training with the world's best.
